The IT Thesis 1 unit is designed for marking the pinnacle of IT students' research expertise, encompassing diverse IT techniques like computer vision, natural language processing, blockchain, cyber security, data mining, database design, etc. Whenever possible, the research projects are sourced from industry partners, establishing a vital link between academic learning and real-world IT challenges. Its primary objectives are to establish a robust foundation for students to address specific research challenges, enhance their skills in theoretical application, problem-solving, and communication, and fortify other essential professional capabilities for their career advancement.
Situated within the structured framework of a two-part unit (NIT6005 and NIT6006), students taking IT Thesis 1 focus on planning, literature review, novel methodology designing, data collection, preliminary data analysis and experiments, which are essential components for a successful IT research project completion. By the unit's conclusion, students are expected to submit a comprehensive report encompassing a literature review, research problem formulation, establishment of research methods, data collection and preliminary analysis, and preliminary studies and verification of the proposed methods. The report of this unit will have approximately 8500 words, and will be feed into the report of NIT6006.
Upon successful completion of NIT6005, students smoothly transition to IT Thesis 2 (NIT6006), where they conduct comprehensive study of the research problems and deliver innovative solutions.
