Overview

This is the final practicum unit within the Master of Clinical Exercise Science and Rehabilitation. Students integrate new information and understanding of knowledge, skills and experiences acquired to date to engage in authentic practitioner experiences at the level expected of a graduating exercise physiologist, adhering to the underpinning person-centred and value-based care principles scaffolded across the course. To enable practicum placements, this unit is delivered online self-paced with reduced coursework hours, and an emphasis on graduate employability skills.

In this unit, students will undergo tasks that evaluate and explore the opportunities available to accredited exercise physiologists in industry. Students will collate evidence of their capabilities, developed experience, and personal attributes to not only reflect on their growth across the course, but to form a portfolio of evidence supporting their employability. With this resource, students will undergo a mock job application and interview using real job advertisements reflective of the opportunities which students may be applying for upon course completion. This unit brings together student learning and prepares them for the transition from student to professional.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Evaluate career opportunities for accredited exercise physiologists, and conceptually map the employability skills required to be successful in these roles;
  2. Compose evidence of employability as an accredited exercise physiologist, and concisely articulate personal strengths and areas for continued development;
  3. Devise a research project aligned to identified personal strengths, professional interests, and within the AEP scope of practice;
  4. Exhibit effective and respectful written or verbal communication consistent with the ESSA Code of Professional Conduct and Ethical Practice; and
  5. Design and implement evidence-based and person-centred exercise assessments and interventions to diverse populations within the exercise physiologist scope of practice.
