This unit of study provides students with knowledge and skills in growth and motor development, and their application in the assessment and development of fundamental movement skills. Students will examine growth and movement development concepts applied to contemporary movement contexts, including: basic development principles, terms, issues, and theoretical approaches to growth and motor development; physical, cognitive, perceptual and biological growth and development; description of motor behaviour characteristics at different stages of development; movement assessment; and fundamental movement skill development. Students will engage in practical activities related to the assessment and development of fundamental movement skills to support their own and others' physical and movement development for participation and performance in physical activity and movement contexts.
