Overview

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to use routine equipment, plant, technologies and personnel protective equipment (PPE) in an energy sector environment.It includes preparing and using equipment, plant, technologies and PPE, and completing workplace requirements in an energy sector work environment.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work-based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • applying relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements, including:
  • applying risk control measures
  • following workplace procedures and instruction
  • applying sustainable energy principles and practices
  • completing workplace documentation
  • dealing with unplanned events/situations in accordance with workplace procedures in a manner that minimises risk to personnel and equipment
  • maintaining a clean worksite and equipment
  • preparing and using equipment, plant and technologies, including:
  • completing schedule of work
  • using and returning tools, equipment, personnel protective equipment, surplus resources and materials
  • updating work records.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by the Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-Learning system.
