This unit describes the performance outcomes skills and knowledge required to develop safe work practices when using equipment and operating machinery in a technology teaching environment. It requires the ability to apply occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations, assess and control risks, identify hazards and respond to emergencies in accordance with Department of Education (DE) and school/college policy and guidelines. This unit applies to registered teachers and support technicians (non-teaching) using woodwork and/or metalwork machinery and equipment in a technology teaching environment. This unit is not intended to provide vocational competencies to operate metalwork machinery in a non-school environment.
Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work-based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
