This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to evaluate and select suitable construction materials for building projects in Australia.
It includes the ability to analyse properties and characteristics of the materials against a range of criteria, including physical attributes, cost, and sustainability, to determine their suitability for application in the construction of a building.This unit applies to building designers who select suitable construction materials for buildings within the context of relevant legislation and the legal responsibilities of building designers.
Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work-based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.
Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
• select at least two construction materials for all of the following elements of a building project:
The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
