Overview

Develop working knowledge of the legal system, principles of contract law and the Corporations Act 2001, with the Business Law unit.

During the unit, you will gain an overview of law and its sources, with an understanding of:

  • legal reasoning in contractual relationships
  • regulatory requirements of the Corporations Act 2001
  • corporate and individual responsibility of company directors to shareholders and other stakeholders
  • business implications of privacy laws as they apply to ‘big data’.

By the end of the unit, you will be able to examine and explain legal matters to stakeholders in a business environment.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Assess legal issues in business law scenarios, analyse and discuss the stakeholders legal rights and responsibilities;
  2. Articulate and explain the legal rights, duties and responsibilities of parties in a business context suggested content;
  3. Review and articulate the appropriate law from particular statutes and case law relevant to specified contexts using digital legal library;
  4. Articulate a working knowledge of various aspects the Corporations Act 2001 and contracts law relating to legal issues; and,
  5. Explain and discuss individual interpretations of business law issues.
