Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to create a network operating system and set up and use administrative tools to manage the network.
It applies to individuals who are required to provide frontline technical support to maintain network continuity to a network operating system.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work-based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • set up and manage at least one network operating system.
    In the course of the above, the candidate must:
  • use network administrative tools to carry out system administration tasks
  • manage the network file system
  • create the network configuration required by the client
  • provide user services and user accounts
  • provide backup and service restoration capability.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
