In this unit students will develop the design and judgement skills required to resolve complex problems in Mechanical Engineering Design. They will work individually and collaboratively to design a range of machine elements in mechanical engineering systems. The unit builds on the prerequisite knowledge developed in NEM2101 Mechanical Engineering Design and has a major focus on the design of components subject to fatigue conditions. Computer aided drawing (CAD) software will be used to design and generate solid models of mechanical elements. Students’ learning is consolidated through a real world project specifically designed to enhance their learning experience providing a rich and authentic context for learning.
