Enhancing strength and power is crucial to developing athletes who are able to sprint faster, jump higher, stop and change direction quicker and produce greater force. In order to develop stronger and more explosive athletes, practitioners require an understanding of the theories underpinning each capacity along with the interactions between factors such as program design, training load, adaptation, fatigue and recovery. The aim of this unit is to provide students with the knowledge, understanding and skills to design and implement effective strength and power programs that enhance these abilities of individual athlete involved in a high performance environment, as well as accompanying testing to help measure improvements.
