This unit introduces concepts related to health, illness and the health care experience. Students will develop knowledge and skills to assist individuals to meet their activities of daily living. The principles and practices of occupational health and safety, risk assessment and infection control will be explored. Students will develop skills in therapeutic communication, holistic health assessment and the provision of quality care. Assessment and care of the woman during pregnancy will also be introduced with a focus on assessment of the woman and her baby. Students will commence the Continuity of Care program, and recruit two (2) women. In support of medication administration, students will be introduced to foundational maths skills.
