Overview

This unit is designed for people intending to sit the Academic IELTS test in order to study at a University and/or TAFE, to obtain recognition of overseas qualifications in Australia, for visa purposes or to have proof of a high level of English.




Students will develop and practise a range of test-taking strategies to enable successful completion of all components of the IELTS test. Students will focus on reading, writing, speaking and listening skills and will they will also increase their general English ability in grammar, vocabulary and functional language. The unit is aimed at students with an Upper Intermediate level of English.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Listening: Utilise a variety of listening strategies to comprehend a range of aural texts (conversations, monologues, academic talks & lectures) within the IELTS exam at an Upper Intermediate level
  2. Reading: Utilise a variety of reading strategies to comprehend a range of texts (books, journals, magazines, newspapers) within the IELTS exam at an Upper Intermediate level;
  3. Writing: Write a range of IELTS related texts (essay, report) using appropriate structure and register at an Upper Intermediate level; and
  4. Speaking: Confidently engage in spoken tasks (interview, presentation, discussion) contained with the IELTS exam at an Upper Intermediate level.
