The unit will provide a detailed understanding of some of the most recent advances in select areas of physiology. Based on interest and availability, students select from a number of areas of study that reflect the dynamic nature of physiology These currently encompass i) Cardiovascular Disease, ii) Muscle and Exercise Physiology, iii) Neurophysiology and iv) Ageing. Students further develop and utilise their graduate capabilities in communication, critical analysis and problem solving to develop theoretical background and multidisciplinary approaches to investigate physiological processes. Students will be introduced to current technologies that enable the understanding of selected areas of study. The unit will culminate in a mock conference with moderated poster presentations which will bring together theoretical and practical elements covered throughout the Human Physiology major, designed to promote teamwork, the ability to read critically, and to evaluate and communicate physiological information.
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
Selected readings will be made available via the unit VU Collaborate site.
This unit is not compulsory for any specific course. Depending on the course you study, this unit may be taken as an elective.
