Overview

In this unit students will be introduced to the principles of contemporary business. Students will explore the nature of business, the role of business and type of business structures (including online business) in Australia. Students will explore a number of external and internal factors (economic, legal, environmental, social and ethical) on business decision making as well as the impact of globalisation.



Students will also be introduced to business marketing. Students will question, investigate and actively reflect on what constitutes effective marketing for a variety of organisations. Students will consider how different demographics influence the marketing approach utilised, and how various approaches are necessary within an overall strategy.



Given a specific geographical location, students will apply the business and marketing theories and develop plans for a hypothetical business using suitable formats.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Analyse the attributes of successful businesses;
  2. Outline the critical elements and functions of a business plan and marketing strategy;
  3. Discuss the effects of internal and external influences on business development and marketing; and
  4. Develop a business plan and communicate a marketing idea.
