Overview

This unit caters for students who already possess knowledge of basic mathematical concepts. This prior learning will enable students to engage with mathematical concepts in Probability and Statistics. The skills developed in this unit support future tertiary studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines. Students will utilise the VU learning management system and library resources.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate use of mathematical knowledge to derive a logical and reasoned solution to a problem;
  2. Illustrate visual representations of mathematical problems to help interpret solutions;
  3. Employ technology such as calculators and computers effectively; and
  4. Apply mathematical language to communicate mathematical ideas, workings and arguments precisely, concisely and logically.
