Overview

This unit delves into advanced technical knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM), covering dimensions such as architectural modelling, scheduling, cost estimation, and energy analysis. Students will develop the competency to critically review and appraise BIM visualisations and lifecycle integrations. They will also learn to effectively perform clash detection using architectural, mechanical, and electrical models, interpreting results to facilitate clear communication within the construction team. Additionally, the unit critically examines current BIM standards and management concepts essential for a BIM manager overseeing complex construction projects.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Formulate a well-defined process utilising Building Information Modelling (BIM) to ensure effective collaboration among all project participants in alignment with client requirements;
  2. Interpret BIM terminologies and enhance understanding of project execution plans through BIM management concepts;
  3. Design strategies for efficient resource management and effective use of software in applying BIM technology and management principles; and
  4. Review and critically evaluate BIM visualisation techniques, standards, and integrations across the building lifecycle.
