Overview

This unit will require students to continue engaging in the range of professional psychological activities undertaken in HPP7001 Practicum 1, including individual and group therapy, cognitive and behavioural assessments, and participation in the activities of a psychology practice at the Victoria University Psychology Clinic. In HPP7002 Practicum 2, students will extend their professional practice skills and broaden their responsibilities beyond those learned in the first unit. They will be expected to demonstrate application of therapeutic techniques and consideration of ethical, legal and organisational practice issues to a more advanced level. This will be reflected in their interaction with clients, standards of case formulations, sensitivity to therapeutic process, case management and interprofessional relations. Placement in HPP7002 Practicum 2 is 150 hours and together with HPP7001 Practicum 1 (180 hours) provides an overall minimum total of 330 placement hours is required to meet Australian Psychology Accreditation Council requirements for this internal placement.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Exemplify the stage-appropriate assessment and intervention skills expected of provisional psychologists;
  2. Implement professional record maintenance skills in relation to practice documentation, logbooks, progress notes and clinic files in a professional agency;
  3. Exhibit familiarity with and ability to engage with the organisational context and professional network including other health professionals in which the psychology practice is embedded; and
  4. Exhibit a developing ability to carry out more complex professional psychology competencies with due appreciation of the legal and ethical issues involved.
