Overview

Play a key role within supply chains with the Procurement and Supply Management unit.

Procurement and supply management has significant impacts on the bottom line of business operations. It involves getting the raw materials, services, and semi-finished and finished goods that the business needs.

In this unit you will investigate and reflect on the processes that drive these operations. This includes, sourcing, selecting, certifying and assessing suppliers.

You will learn:

  • to work collaboratively to report on effective supplier relationships and their importance to successful purchasing
  • to evaluate the importance of contracts and the activities carried out during different stages of negotiation
  • about contemporary issues such as social procurement and sustainability criteria.

You will work in a team to reflect on an industry case study. This will include referencing a broad range of theories and frameworks, hearing from industry guest speakers, and/or visiting a site associated with purchasing and supply management.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Critique and reflect on a range of functions that make up modern procurement processes, the importance they have in the supply chain, and how they have evolved over time;
  2. Infer and synthesise knowledge of purchasing and supply management through a series of purchasing-related tools and techniques;
  3. Reflect, in teams and/ individually, on case studies and industry practices with reference to relevant procurement theories and frameworks to produce an industry report, and presentation; and,
  4. Conceptualise and synthesise information from multiple sources to present a clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge in the field of purchasing and supply management.
