This unit describes the performance outcome, knowledge and skills required to recognise threats, risks and vulnerabilities to cyber security in an organisation. The threats to an organisation include networks, machines, applications, data, users and infrastructure. The unit addresses common cyber security attack mechanisms and an introduction to threat management as well as security issues surrounding Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The unit also includes the implementation of tools and systems an organisation can use for protection against cyber-attacks. This unit applies to individuals working as cyber security technicians either alone or as part of a team.
Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each units learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.
Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:
• identify threats, risks and vulnerabilities to sensitive organisational data and recommend suitable methodologies to protect the data for two (2) scenarios.
The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
