This unit of study will provide an introduction to counselling skills and theories. There will be discussion of settings in which counselling occurs, an introduction to basic counselling skills, and understanding of how to use these skills in counselling sessions. Several counselling theories will be introduced. Through role-plays and class activities, students will be encouraged to develop basic counselling skills and begin to understand links between theory and practice.

This unit is not compulsory for any specific course. Depending on the course you study, this unit may be taken as an elective.
