This unit covers the requirements and principles of electronic design for the screen. It examines the visual and interactive design practices and processes of digital media, including static, temporal and interactive media. The platforms explored are web and mobile platforms. Topics explored include: processes to create a design concept, branding, trends in design, and the relationship between text and image. The visual literacy and technical skill sets of students will be developed, including the written and oral communication skills required by a digital designer. Industry practices within the domain of interactive design, such as user experience are explored. Students are given guidance to research, design and develop a folio. Assessment tasks combine creativity with theoretical and technical knowledge.
Underlying this unit are the industry processes of SCRUM and agile production which give the opportunity to reflect on the advantages and disadvantages of production models.
