Student basketball teams represent VU proudly in national league

The University Basketball League is a national, student-only competition, and the only national university league for any sport in Australia.

This year 14 universities were in the home and away season, with eight teams vying for the top spot in the grand final, which was held 29 May 2024.

Victoria University’s student team, the VU Vultures represented VU proudly, showing their prowess and teamwork on court over eight weeks of intense competition, while balancing their academic commitments.

Despite facing formidable opponents, both the men's and women's squads of the VU Vultures left their mark on the court – with the women’s team finishing 7th, and the men’s placing 13th

Julz Nanetti, VU Sport Coordinator and team manager, was particularly proud to see students show camaraderie and unity – forging lasting friendships and building their skills on the court, alongside work and study.

It fills me with such an immense sense of pride to work with such a dedicated group of students.

"Our men's squad, boasting several new faces this season, displayed commendable resilience against some of the nation's toughest teams.

"Our women's squad delivered one of their finest performances, advancing to the quarterfinals where they narrowly missed out on victory against the University of Sydney," Julz said.

Extending congratulations to the two 2024 Championship winners, the University of Sydney’s women’s team, and La Trobe University’s men’s team – our  VU Vultures are looking forward to soaring even higher in 2025 University Basketball League season.
