Vale Bob Fairclough

Former Wyndham mayor and previous Head of School at Victoria University of Technology has died.

Bob Fairclough was a former mayor, councillor, respected Victoria University academic, and community leader. He passed away on 30 January 2025. 

An academic and biology professor who emigrated from New Zealand; Mr Fairclough was Head of School for the School of Life Sciences and Technology from 1998 – 2003. He was also instrumental in setting up the highly successful Biomedical Science degree and was the Head of the School of Biomedical Sciences at St Albans Campus until he retired. He remained connected to the University for many years following this, as an Adjunct Professor. 

Mr Fairclough was also an Order of Australia recipient in 2013 for his service to the community, and education. 

Victoria University extends respects to Mr Fairclough for his lifetime of service to the community. 

Bob was a respected community leader, academic, and advocate. We want to acknowledge his outstanding contribution to Victoria University’s students, staff, and community, and his academic achievements in biology. 

We’re saddened by his passing and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time.
