For the second year, Victoria University's representation at the Transgender Victoria Job Fair on May 31, 2024, was a pivotal moment for community engagement, fostering connections with job seekers and providers alike.

The fair was a dynamic hub of story-sharing and meaningful discussions on creating and navigating safe spaces. Attendees shared inspiring narratives of resilience and growth, highlighting the transition from mere survival to authentic thriving. There was a prevalent interest in TAFE as a pathway to affirming careers, particularly in Allied Health, Mental Health, and IT sectors.

As the sole academic institution present, VU's presence was notable, receiving recognition for its inclusive and LGBTQIA+ safe environment. Attendees emphasised the vital role of staff networks, such as Pride, in fostering culturally safe workplaces. Discussions also spotlighted the intersectionality of our communities, touching on themes of neurodivergence and the need for accommodating diverse needs.

These conversations offer a glimpse into a hopeful future, illustrating how the values instilled in academic institutions ripple out into broader society. Staff networks like Pride serve as pillars of inclusivity and change within organisations.

As VU continues to push forward and progress inclusivity, the university was recognised as a Gold Employer with the AWEI at the 2024 Australian LGBTQ+ Inclusion Awards. This recognition speaks volumes about VU’s dedication and commitment to LGBTIQA+ inclusion over the years.
