Overview

Learn how to safely operate a range of woodwork and metalwork machinery and equipment in a secondary classroom setting, with Victoria University's specialised course in Safe Use of Machinery for Technology Teaching 22623VIC.

This professional development course has been designed to maintain your safety accreditation.

As part of this course, you will learn:

  • current techniques for the safe operation of machinery
  • best practice procedures for classroom safety
  • OHS risk management skills
  • basic machinery maintenance
  • how to supervise safe machinery operations.

This course can be undertaken as a specialisation, providing knowledge and training of safe machinery use in the following:

  • metalwork only
  • woodwork only
  • metalwork and woodwork.

Once completed, you will have the skills and knowledge to maintain a safe learning environment and prevent injuries.

Please note: this course does not qualify you as a school teacher.

Course structure

Upon successful completion students receive a Statement of Attainment for the Course in Safe Use of Machinery in Technology Teaching, a minimum of two (2) units of competency must be achieved, comprising:

  • one (1) core unit, plus
  • minimum one (1) elective unit which must be selected from the elective units listed below.


Note: This course allows for specialisations:

  • metalwork;
  • woodwork, and;
  • metalwork and woodwork.
