Pathways in Place: Co-Creating Community Capabilities is an innovative program of research and action that supports the flourishing of children and young people in two communities: Brimbank in Victoria and Logan in Queensland.
We are working with these communities to co-create evidence-informed responses that harness the strengths, resources, and opportunities that are already in place, and to address local needs.
Based at Victoria University’s Footscray Park campus, we are leveraging our existing relationships and partnerships with the Brimbank community.
As the ‘University of the West’, we have deep ties to Brimbank and Melbourne’s west, and strong research and practice expertise.
We will share learnings from our work in an ongoing process of feedback, evaluation, and refinement.

Giving it a Go: Working towards health and wellbeing is a collaborative and innovative research project designed to help people with chronic musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions who are on the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
Living with a musculoskeletal condition is challenging and musculoskeletal issues present in many ways. People can have arthritis, back or neck pain, fibromyalgia or an injury that leads to ongoing MSK symptoms including pain and fatigue.
People with MSK conditions often find themselves restricted from doing the things they love, whether it's spending time with family or friends, going to school or other studies, or working or enjoying a hobby or sport.
Where you live affects your health. Access to and quality of health and social services varies across urban, regional, rural and remote environments in Australia. People’s health and wellbeing is also influenced by the social and physical characteristics of their communities.
The Mitchell Institute's flagship place-based program, Growing Brimbank, works in partnership with the Brimbank City Council and Victoria University to explore and address these challenges at a local level, taking a holistic approach that addresses risk factors and challenges in health, wellbeing and education.
