Addressing aboriginal disadvantage in the west of Melbourne
This project will grow Aboriginal expertise in Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCO’s) and Aboriginal Small to Medium Enterprises (SME’s) in the west of Melbourne.
It will connect Aboriginal community to relevant vocational education training and community based models of advocacy and social change while enabling equal participation through a community-led project.
This research will:
- collate and analyse data on Aboriginal disadvantage related to the West of Melbourne
- document the development and implementation of ACCO's
- with Aboriginal community, design and develop a west of Melbourne model for advocacy and social change through community control
- engage with Aboriginal people who wish to develop SME’s to understand their training needs and aspirations.
Moondani Balluk at VU will champion the project as part of their work to engage with the Aboriginal community in the west of Melbourne to lead and support self-determination, community voice and advocacy.
