Overview

Discover the tools and techniques used by business analysts to influence business design, in the Business Process Analysis and Design unit.

This unit examines effective systems for the design and analysis phases of business design.

You will develop targeted management skills for these design phases through learning to:

  • identify customer requirements
  • model data
  • design functional business processes
  • investigate the tools needed for developing system requirements.

Additionally, you will explore key principles and methods used in the design phase, such as:

  • input and output design
  • interface design using usability guidelines
  • prototyping
  • software architecture.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Map the process interactions between organisational functional structures annotating fundamental business processes that generate information;
  2. Articulate how contextual analysis informs personal interpretations or conceptualisations of relatively complex business process modelling problems and scenarios;
  3. Interpret recommendations from different development problems and scenarios, justifying the recommendations made with reference to salient contextual considerations of local/global settings;
  4. Investigate, analyse and argue key areas relating to systems analysis and design; and
  5. Collaboratively develop prototypes of computer-based information systems demonstrating initiative and problem-solving judgements to meet simulated client briefs.
