Overview

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to establish the foundations of massage practice and its place in the Australian health care system, identify and provide appropriate information about massage to different audiences, develop own approach to massage practice and evaluate what makes a sustainable practice.This unit applies to massage therapists.

Assessment

For Melbourne campuses

Assessment tasks will be designed to reinforce & extend knowledge and skill competence within set & controlled parameters in accordance with each unit's learning outcomes & performance criteria requirements, including the setting of work based practical application tasks designed to provide evidence of competence outcomes, within periodic and scheduled timelines.

Students will be expected to demonstrate the following required skills:

  • source and summarise three credible pieces of information on the theory and practice of massage including one from each of the following:
  • Commonwealth Government
  • State or Territory Government
  • primary scientific research
  • communicate key messages about massage therapy to meet the information needs of at least three different audiences, each using a different communication method
  • identify and evaluate effective strategies for own practice that cover:
  • personal health
  • sustainable practice
  • career longevity.

Required reading

The qualified trainer and assessor will provide teaching and learning materials as required in the form of workbooks produced by Victoria University and/or via the Victoria University e-learning system.
