This unit lays the groundwork for developing and sustaining a safety culture in building sites and other workplaces. It focuses on analysing risks, formulating risk mitigation strategies, and applying safety requirements in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation. Students will learn about fire safety and the supervision of onsite operatives, emphasising compliance with management standards for workplace hazards and risks. The unit also introduces relevant building legislation, including the Building Code of Australia (BCA), providing an overview of the BCA's Deemed to Satisfy provisions and introducing performance solutions for safer building practices. Furthermore, guest lectures from industry experts are included in the unit to enhance the practical learning experience and offer valuable professional insights. This unit incorporates Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) practices.
