Assessment & results at VU Sydney

An important part of your academic studies is sitting exams, submitting assignments and finding out how you are progressing through your course.

Assessments

Submitting your assessment

Throughout your studies you may complete individual or group assignments as assessment tasks toward your final mark.

All assessments are submitted online via VU Collaborate, unless directed to submit via an alternative method. Please refer to your unit space in VU Collaborate, for your assessment instructions, requirements, and submission process.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is 'a practice that involves the using of another person’s intellectual output and presenting it as one’s own'.

This includes the presentation of work that has been copied, in whole or part, from other sources (including other students’ work, published books or periodicals, or unpublished works or unauthorised collaboration with other persons), without due acknowledgement.

More information about why you need to reference and the importance of avoiding plagiarism can be found in our referencing and plagiarism guide.

Extensions & special consideration

If you're struggling to submit an assignment due to unexpected circumstances, you may be able to apply for a short extension or special consideration.

You should speak to a Learning Support Advisor as soon as possible if you have any issues that are affecting your ability to study or complete your assignment. You can contact a Learning Support Advisor by visiting the Learning Support Unit at our campus or via email at [email protected] .

Results review

If you disagree with an assessment result, you can request a review of your result. You must apply for a review within 5 days of receiving your unit results.

To request a review of result, you must be able to demonstrate one of the following:

  • there was bias on the part of the assessor
  • the assessment was inappropriately constructed, or an inadequate basis was provided for completing it
  • the assessment was of a scale or degree of difficulty not commensurate with the level and weighting of the unit
  • the assessor made an error of fact in assessing the content of the submitted work.

Submit the completed Review of Assessment Outcome Request form via AskVU.

Please note the outcome of your result review is final and is not an appealable decision.

Review process

We will make relevant enquiries into the matter, which may include discussing the result and the feedback with the student or the assessor.

Student Advocacy can provide you with advice and guidance on the Review of Individual Assessment Outcomes Procedure (HE). Please email a summary of your concerns and any relevant assessment details to [email protected] .
