Overview

Learn how to support young people in a diverse range of settings with a Diploma of Youth Work CHC50421 at Victoria University.

This course will enhance your ability to build strong relationships with young people and achieve positive outcomes. You’ll learn how to develop and facilitate programs to meet their social, behavioural, health, welfare, developmental and protection needs.

You'll also gain specialist skills and knowledge in:

  • effective communication
  • needs assessment, service delivery and case management
  • advocacy and empowerment
  • child protection
  • community education and group activities
  • legal and ethical frameworks
  • workplace safety.

Practical placement in a workplace is a requirement for this course. You will have the opportunity to put your learning into practice with the support of a qualified workplace supervisor.

Course structure

To be awarded the CHC50421 Diploma of Youth Work, 21 units must be completed consisting of:

  • 16 core units
  • 5 elective units, consisting of:

- at least 1 unit from Group A

- plus at least 2 units from Group A or Group B

- up to 2 units from the electives listed, or any endorsed Training Package or accredited course.
